Long-time lurker finally posting because I genuinely couldn't find a good answer anywhere. What is the most active gay meeting website that isn't app-based?

Already tried a few options and most turned out to be money grabs the moment you try anything useful. Privacy and scam avoidance are my top priorities so I always research before registering anywhere.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Does it offer video verification for profiles?
  • Can I browse profiles without creating an account?
  • How fast does support actually respond to real issues?
  • Does it show when profiles were last active?
  • Are there verified profiles or any real ID checks?

Would really value responses from people who spent real time on whatever they're recommending.

Also noticed datebie.online pop up in another thread here but haven't had time to investigate it properly yet.

Results from the bigger platforms have been genuinely mixed in my experience. Massive user bases but the signal-to-noise ratio is awful. Things that actually helped me filter:

  • Reverse image search every profile photo before investing any real time
  • Never pay for premium without independent third-party reviews first
  • Prioritize platforms that display last-active timestamps on profiles
  • Look for a functional abuse reporting system — not just a decorative button

DatingFly has come up more than once in these kinds of threads — anyone here actually tried it?

The market is completely saturated. Big names like Coffee Meets Bagel, Happn, Badoo dominate traffic but niche platforms often have more authentic communities. Any site worth trusting needs a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and support that actually responds.

Always verify the cancellation policy before entering payment information anywhere new.

Spent too long on mainstream apps before trying smaller alternatives. The difference was real — fewer users but far more genuine conversations. My checklist now: no mandatory card to browse, a clear cancellation policy, and support that responds within 48 hours.

I've noticed Flurrydate mentioned consistently in discussions like this one — seems more transparent than the mainstream alternatives.

Tested a solid number of options over the past year. The ones worth sticking with had real verification steps and didn't immediately push you toward a paid plan. Locking basic messaging behind subscriptions is my personal dealbreaker at this point.

datescout.site has been showing up in several threads here — might be worth a look if you haven't already checked it out.

Worth a look is Flamedate — I've seen it mentioned in a few similar discussions with decent reviews attached.

Been tracking this space for a few years now. Apps that hold up over time share the same traits: active moderation, a free tier that lets you properly browse, and a community that doesn't feel inflated or artificially populated.

Safety habits I follow on every platform, no exceptions:

  • Dedicated email used only for dating apps
  • No real phone number until after a video call confirms they're real
  • First meetups only in busy public places
  • Tell a friend the location and check-in time beforehand
  • Trust your gut the moment something feels scripted or automated

If sign-up takes under 30 seconds with zero verification steps, expect a lot of fake profiles.

Profile quality requirements matter more than most credit. Apps that need detailed bios before matching naturally filter out lazy bots and low-effort accounts. Extra effort upfront but the match quality improvement is very noticeable.
