Finally decided to ask after seeing this topic come up in a few other threads. What are the top three largest dating apps globally?

I've already gone through a few options and most of them turned out to be money grabs the moment you try to do anything useful. Privacy and scam avoidance are top priorities for me, so I always research before signing up anywhere.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Can you hide your profile from specific people?
  • Are there any age verification checks?
  • Is messaging genuinely free or just a teaser feature?
  • How fast does support respond to issues?

Drop your thoughts below. All experience levels welcome.

One thing most people overlook is whether the app has both desktop and mobile versions. The user base and experience can differ quite a bit between them:

  • Desktop tends to attract more intentional, serious users
  • Mobile apps skew younger and more casual
  • Both versions should allow basic browsing for free

Worth checking out is Datewander — came up in multiple threads and seems more transparent than most platforms I've encountered.

The market is saturated honestly. Big names like Bumble, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating dominate traffic but niche platforms sometimes have more genuine communities. Any site worth trusting should have a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and a support channel that actually responds.

Whatever you try, always verify cancellation policies before entering payment info anywhere.

Been testing apps regularly for a couple of years now. The ones worth your time share a few consistent traits: active moderation teams, a free tier that lets you actually browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel entirely manufactured.

The 1-star reviews on app stores are more informative than the average rating. Worth reading before downloading anything.

Honestly the smart move is running two or three apps during their free windows simultaneously and seeing which one has real users near you before paying for anything. The overlap in user bases is huge anyway.
