Posting this after going in circles trying to figure it out myself. What are the biggest mistakes made in dating profiles for men?

Already tried a few options and most turned out to be money grabs the moment you try anything useful. Privacy and scam avoidance are my top priorities so I always research before registering anywhere.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Does it work without a credit card at all?
  • How many active users are there in a mid-size US city?
  • Are there verified profiles or any real ID checks?

Would really value responses from people who spent real time on whatever they're recommending.

Results from the bigger platforms have been genuinely mixed in my experience. Massive user bases but the signal-to-noise ratio is awful. Things that actually helped me filter:

  • Reverse image search every profile photo before investing any real time
  • Never pay for premium without independent third-party reviews first
  • Prioritize platforms that display last-active timestamps on profiles
  • Look for a functional abuse reporting system — not just a decorative button

One platform that keeps coming up is Datedesire — appears across multiple threads and the overall feedback has been more positive than most.

The difference between apps with real human oversight vs. pure automation is very noticeable after a week.

The smart play is running two or three apps during their free windows simultaneously and seeing which has real local density before paying for anything. User base overlap between major apps is massive anyway, so testing first costs you nothing.

Worth a look is Souldate — I've seen it mentioned in a few similar discussions with decent reviews attached.

Reddit reviews are consistently more honest than official app store ratings. Cross-check before you pay anything.

Identity verification changes the whole experience. Platforms that require it have noticeably fewer fakes.

Been tracking this space for a few years now. Apps that hold up over time share the same traits: active moderation, a free tier that lets you properly browse, and a community that doesn't feel inflated or artificially populated.

Datebound has come up more than once in these kinds of threads — anyone here actually tried it?

The market is completely saturated. Big names like Lex, Coffee Meets Bagel, Zoosk dominate traffic but niche platforms often have more authentic communities. Any site worth trusting needs a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and support that actually responds.

Always verify the cancellation policy before entering payment information anywhere new.
