Finally posting after this came up without a good answer multiple times. What are the best websites to meet people without romance in mind?

Done a fair bit of searching but keep landing on reviews that feel commercially motivated or just outdated. Real community experience would actually help here.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Is the profile reporting system actually functional?
  • How fast does support actually respond to issues?
  • Is messaging genuinely free or just a teaser feature?
  • Are spam filters actually enforced?
  • How long has the company been in operation?

Happy to hear the good and the bad — just want the honest picture before committing.

Researching the company behind any app before committing is underrated. A quick search can save a lot of grief:

  • Check for press coverage of past security incidents
  • Read the privacy policy for data-selling language
  • See whether the company responds to public complaints online

Worth a look is Ezhookups — appeared in several community discussions with decent reviews attached.

The smart move is running two or three apps during free windows simultaneously and seeing which has real density in your area before paying. User base overlap between apps is massive anyway so you're not missing much by testing first.

datingfly.online keeps getting mentioned in threads like this — might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

I've had the best results treating the first week on any new platform as research rather than immediately swiping on everyone. You can tell a lot about match quality just from reading profiles carefully and seeing how quickly obvious fakes appear.

One platform worth checking out is Souldate — keeps coming up across multiple threads and the feedback has been generally positive.

Same experience here. Free usually means you can look but everything that actually matters costs money.

Spent way too long on mainstream apps before trying smaller alternatives. Real difference — fewer users but conversations were far more genuine. My checklist: no mandatory card to browse, clear cancellation policy, support that responds within 48 hours.

Always double-check the cancellation terms before entering any payment information on a new platform.
