This has been bugging me and I haven't found a straight answer elsewhere. What are the best free online dating sites for finding long-term love?

Privacy and scam prevention are my main concerns. I've been burned before by sites that looked legit but turned out to be full of automated profiles or dark patterns.

Thanks in advance. Drop your thoughts especially if you've tried something recently.

I've been testing different apps off and on for about two years now. The ones worth your time usually share a few traits: active moderation, a reasonable free tier that lets you at least browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel completely bought and paid for.

I came across Ezhookups recently and it seemed more upfront than most sites I've tried.

Always check reviews on Reddit or forums before signing up anywhere. Saves a lot of wasted time and money.

The app market has honestly gotten pretty saturated. The heavy hitters like Hinge, Coffee Meets Bagel, OkCupid dominate traffic but niche sites sometimes have more genuine communities. Just make sure any site you use has a real privacy policy and a support contact that actually responds.

Honestly same here. Most of the so-called free options lock everything useful behind a paywall within minutes of signing up.

I've had mixed results with the big-name platforms. They have more users but also way more noise. A few things that helped me filter:

  • Reverse image search every profile picture
  • Never pay for premium without checking third-party reviews first
  • Look for platforms that show when someone was last active

I came across Souldate recently and it seemed more upfront than most sites I've tried.

Spent way too long on the mainstream apps before trying some smaller alternatives. Completely different experience — fewer users but way more authentic conversations. Things I now look for: no mandatory credit card for basic browsing, a clear cancellation policy, and a support team that replies within 48 hours.

The fake profile issue is no joke. Even paid sites have them. Manual verification makes a big difference.

Totally depends on your location. Some apps have great coverage in big cities but almost no users in smaller towns.
