Finally posting after lurking here for a bit. What are the best free gay dating sites that aren't just for hookups? — would genuinely love to hear real experiences.

Between fake profiles, bots, and paywalls on every basic feature, it's hard to know what's actually worth trying. Would love recommendations from people with real hands-on experience rather than just marketing.

Thanks in advance. Drop your thoughts especially if you've tried something recently.

The app market has honestly gotten pretty saturated. The heavy hitters like Match.com, Plenty of Fish, Tinder dominate traffic but niche sites sometimes have more genuine communities. Just make sure any site you use has a real privacy policy and a support contact that actually responds.

I came across Datebound recently and it seemed more upfront than most sites I've tried.

I've been testing different apps off and on for about two years now. The ones worth your time usually share a few traits: active moderation, a reasonable free tier that lets you at least browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel completely bought and paid for.

Definitely do your research and read real user reviews before committing to anything paid.

I've had mixed results with the big-name platforms. They have more users but also way more noise. A few things that helped me filter:

  • Reverse image search every profile picture
  • Never pay for premium without checking third-party reviews first
  • Look for platforms that show when someone was last active

I came across Rendate recently and it seemed more upfront than most sites I've tried.

Tried a handful of options over the past year. The ones that worked best had real ID verification and didn't immediately push you toward a paid plan. Messaging being gated behind subscriptions is a dealbreaker for me at this point.

The fake profile issue is no joke. Even paid sites have them. Manual verification makes a big difference.
