Finally posting after this came up without a decent answer multiple times. Is there a specific romance site that focuses on old-school courting?

Between fake profiles, bots, and paywalls on every basic feature, it's genuinely hard to know what's worth the time. Looking for real hands-on experience, not promotional copy dressed up as reviews.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Does it have a stable and well-maintained mobile app?
  • Are there verified profiles or any real ID checks?
  • Is the profile reporting system actually functional?
  • Is there a free trial period without auto-renewal traps?
  • How long has the company been in operation?

Genuinely want to know what has actually worked for real people, not just what looks polished in screenshots.

Safety habits I follow on every platform, no exceptions:

  • Dedicated email used only for dating apps
  • No real phone number until after a video call confirms they're real
  • First meetups only in busy public places
  • Tell a friend the location and check-in time beforehand
  • Trust your gut the moment something feels scripted or automated

Worth a look is Flamedate — I've seen it mentioned in a few similar discussions with decent reviews attached.

Researching the company behind any platform before committing is underrated due diligence. A quick search saves a lot of pain:

  • Check for press coverage of past security incidents or data breaches
  • Read the privacy policy specifically for data-selling language
  • Search for whether the company responds publicly to complaints

Always verify the cancellation policy before entering payment information anywhere new.

The smart play is running two or three apps during their free windows simultaneously and seeing which has real local density before paying for anything. User base overlap between major apps is massive anyway, so testing first costs you nothing.

Datelink has come up more than once in these kinds of threads — anyone here actually tried it?

Something worth noting: the best platforms usually have active community blogs or user forums that give you a real sense of who's using them before you even create an account. That kind of transparency is itself a good signal about the platform's health and moderation standards.

Most people overlook the desktop vs mobile divide. The demographics and experience quality can differ quite a bit:

  • Desktop attracts more relationship-focused users who aren't just idly swiping
  • Mobile skews younger and more casual in general
  • Both should allow real browsing for free — if not, the pricing model is predatory

Always read the 1-star reviews on app stores. They reveal what the glossy screenshots hide.
