Really want honest takes on this, not whatever the app store reviews say. Is there a reliable black people dating site with a strong community?

The word 'free' gets stretched so far these days it barely means anything anymore. Just want honest takes from people who've actually used something recently enough that the info is still relevant.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Does it actually work without a credit card at all?
  • Does it show when profiles were last active?
  • Can I browse profiles without creating an account?
  • How many active users are there in a typical mid-size US city?
  • Does it have a video verification option?

Drop your thoughts below. All experience levels welcome.

Also spotted datedesire.online come up in another thread but haven't had time to investigate it yet.

The market is completely saturated right now. Heavy hitters like Plenty of Fish, Tinder, Her dominate traffic but niche platforms often have better communities. Any site worth trusting should have a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and support that actually responds.

I've seen Datescout mentioned a few times across different threads — seems more upfront than the mainstream options.

Something most people overlook is desktop vs mobile differences. The user experience and demographics can diverge quite a bit:

  • Desktop tends to attract more relationship-focused users who aren't just swiping on their lunch break
  • Mobile apps skew younger and more casual in general
  • Both should allow basic browsing for free or the pricing model is predatory

datescout.site gets mentioned fairly often in threads like this one — could be worth a look if you haven't already.

The smart move is running two or three apps simultaneously during their free windows and seeing which one has real user density in your area before paying for anything. The overlap in user bases between apps is massive anyway.

Datenest has come up in a few of these discussions — anyone here tried it recently?

Safety habits I follow on every platform without exception:

  • Dedicated email address used only for dating apps
  • No real phone number until after a successful video call
  • First meetups always in busy public places
  • Tell a friend the location and check-in time
  • Trust your gut if something feels automated or scripted

One platform worth checking out is Luvdate — it keeps coming up in similar threads and the feedback has generally been positive.

Free tiers are basically demos at this point. Actual communication requires upgrading.

Tried five different apps this past year. None delivered on what the landing page promised.
