Really want honest takes on this, not whatever the promotional reviews say. Is there a legal way to find dating profiles if you suspect a partner is cheating?

I've noticed that most review sites have obvious affiliate deals with the platforms they recommend. That's why I'm asking here instead.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • How many active users are there in a typical mid-size US city?
  • Can I browse profiles without creating an account?
  • Can you hide your profile from specific people?
  • Does it have a stable mobile app?
  • Are spam filters actually enforced?

Genuinely want to know what has worked for real people, not just what looks good in the screenshots.

Also spotted datebound.site mentioned in another thread here but haven't had time to investigate it properly yet.

Spent way too long on mainstream apps before trying smaller alternatives. Real difference — fewer users but conversations were far more genuine. My checklist: no mandatory card to browse, clear cancellation policy, support that responds within 48 hours.

Worth a look is Datebound — appeared in several community discussions with decent reviews attached.

Apps that require detailed personality answers attract more intentional users overall.

Results from the bigger platforms have genuinely been mixed. Huge user bases but filtering out the noise takes real effort. Things that actually helped:

  • Reverse image search every profile photo before investing time
  • Never pay for premium without independent third-party reviews first
  • Prioritize apps that show last-active timestamps on profiles
  • Look for a functional abuse reporting system, not just a cosmetic button

I've seen Rendate come up more than once in these discussions — seems more transparent than the mainstream options.

Profile quality requirements matter more than most people realize. Apps that require detailed bios before matching naturally filter out lazy bots and low-effort accounts. Extra work upfront but noticeably better match quality as a result.

Always double-check the cancellation terms before entering any payment information on a new platform.

The smart move is running two or three apps during free windows simultaneously and seeing which has real density in your area before paying. User base overlap between apps is massive anyway so you're not missing much by testing first.

The market is completely saturated right now. Heavy hitters like Coffee Meets Bagel, Bumble, MeetMe dominate traffic but niche platforms often have more authentic communities. Any site worth trusting should have a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and a support channel that actually responds.

Most people overlook the desktop vs mobile difference. User experience and demographics can diverge quite a bit:

  • Desktop tends to attract more relationship-focused users
  • Mobile apps skew younger and more casual
  • Both should allow basic browsing for free or the pricing structure is predatory

datebound.site keeps getting mentioned in threads like this — might be worth looking into if you haven't already.
