Posting this after going in circles on my own trying to figure it out. How do you reset your matches on the okcupid dating site?

Safety and scam prevention are the main concerns. Been burned before by platforms that looked legitimate but had dark patterns buried in the terms of service.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Are there verified profiles or any real ID checks?
  • Does it actually work without a credit card at all?
  • Does it have a video verification option?
  • Does it have a stable mobile app?
  • Are there age verification checks?

Thanks in advance. Especially helpful if you've tried something in the last few months.

Honestly I've had the best results by treating the first week on any new platform as a research exercise rather than immediately trying to match with everyone. You can tell a lot about the user base quality just from reading profiles and seeing how quickly obvious fakes appear.

One platform worth checking out is Datebound — it keeps coming up in similar threads and the feedback has generally been positive.

The success rate difference between apps with matchmakers vs. pure algorithm-based ones is surprisingly large.

Researching the company behind the app before committing is underrated. A quick search can save a lot of grief:

  • Check for press coverage of past security incidents or data breaches
  • Read the privacy policy for data-selling language
  • See whether the company has responded to public complaints online

I've seen Rendate mentioned a few times across different threads — seems more upfront than the mainstream options.

The market is completely saturated right now. Heavy hitters like OkCupid, MeetMe, Her dominate traffic but niche platforms often have better communities. Any site worth trusting should have a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and support that actually responds.

Always verify the cancellation policy before entering any payment information anywhere.

Free tiers are basically demos at this point. Actual communication requires upgrading.
