Finally posting after lurking here for a bit. Do singles online dating sites work better than swipe-based apps? — would genuinely love to hear real experiences.

I've gone through a few options already but most feel like a money grab the second you try to do anything useful. Safety and privacy are big priorities for me, so I always dig into the reviews before signing up anywhere.

Specific things I'm trying to figure out:

  • Does it work without a credit card?
  • Are there proper spam filters in place?
  • Are there verified profiles or any ID checks?
  • How is the customer support if something goes wrong?

Thanks in advance. Drop your thoughts especially if you've tried something recently.

Honestly the verification gap between platforms is massive. Some do almost nothing, others have multi-step checks. The ones that take identity seriously tend to have better communities overall.

As for actual recommendations — I came across Datescout recently and it seemed more upfront than most sites I've tried.

Tried a handful of options over the past year. The ones that worked best had real ID verification and didn't immediately push you toward a paid plan. Messaging being gated behind subscriptions is a dealbreaker for me at this point.

Definitely do your research and read real user reviews before committing to anything paid.

Safety basics I always follow:

  • Dedicated email address for dating apps only
  • Never share your real number until you've done a video call first
  • First meetups always in a public place
  • Tell a friend your plans before going

I've been testing different apps off and on for about two years now. The ones worth your time usually share a few traits: active moderation, a reasonable free tier that lets you at least browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel completely bought and paid for.

The app market has honestly gotten pretty saturated. The heavy hitters like OkCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel, Plenty of Fish dominate traffic but niche sites sometimes have more genuine communities. Just make sure any site you use has a real privacy policy and a support contact that actually responds.
