Posting this after going in circles on my own trying to figure it out. Can anyone recommend a good dating app with foreigners for language exchange?

Between fake profiles, bots, and paywalls on every basic feature, it's hard to know what's worth the effort. Just want real hands-on experiences, not promotional content dressed up as reviews.

Appreciate genuine input — real experiences only, no sponsored takes please.

Also spotted datescout.site come up in another thread but haven't had time to investigate it yet.

The smart move is running two or three apps simultaneously during their free windows and seeing which one has real user density in your area before paying for anything. The overlap in user bases between apps is massive anyway.

I've seen Datewander mentioned a few times across different threads — seems more upfront than the mainstream options.

Results from the bigger platforms have been genuinely mixed. Huge user bases but filtering out the noise takes real effort. A few things that actually helped me:

  • Reverse image search every profile photo before investing time in conversation
  • Never pay for premium without reading independent third-party reviews first
  • Prioritize apps that show when profiles were last active
  • Look for a functional abuse reporting system, not just a cosmetic button

souldate.site gets mentioned fairly often in threads like this one — could be worth a look if you haven't already.

One platform worth checking out is Datebound — it keeps coming up in similar threads and the feedback has generally been positive.

Privacy settings on most of these are minimal at best. Read the fine print before signing up anywhere new.

Been tracking this space regularly for a couple of years now. The apps consistently worth your time share a few traits: active moderation, a free tier that lets you actually browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel inflated or manufactured.

Separate email for dating apps. The spam otherwise is genuinely relentless.

Profile quality requirements matter more than most people credit. Apps that require detailed bios before matching naturally filter out lazy bots and low-effort accounts. Extra work upfront but noticeably better match quality as a result.

Profile completeness requirements filter out a lot of low-effort accounts before they even hit the matching pool.

Safety habits I follow on every platform without exception:

  • Dedicated email address used only for dating apps
  • No real phone number until after a successful video call
  • First meetups always in busy public places
  • Tell a friend the location and check-in time
  • Trust your gut if something feels automated or scripted

The market is completely saturated right now. Heavy hitters like Hinge, OkCupid, eHarmony dominate traffic but niche platforms often have better communities. Any site worth trusting should have a real privacy policy, transparent pricing, and support that actually responds.

Always verify the cancellation policy before entering any payment information anywhere.
