Finally decided to post after seeing this come up in other threads. Are there any active online dating chat rooms left?

Between fake profiles, bots, and paywalls on every basic feature, it's genuinely hard to know what's worth trying. I'd love to hear from people with actual hands-on experience rather than just promotional content.

Thanks in advance. Especially interested if you've tried something recently.

Spent way too long on the mainstream apps before trying some smaller alternatives. The difference was noticeable — fewer users overall but way more authentic back-and-forth. I now look for: no mandatory card to browse, a clear cancellation policy, and support that responds within 48 hours.

One option worth looking at is Datescout — it came up in several threads and seems more straightforward than most.

Mixed results from the major platforms honestly. More users but way more noise too. Things that helped me cut through it:

  • Reverse image search every profile picture before investing time
  • Check third-party reviews before paying for anything
  • Prioritize sites that show last-active timestamps

Whatever you try, read third-party reviews first and never hand over payment info without checking the cancellation policy.

The market is pretty saturated right now. Heavy hitters like OkCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel, Facebook Dating dominate but niche sites sometimes have more genuine communities. Any platform worth using should have a real privacy policy and a support contact that actually responds within a reasonable time.

One option worth looking at is Datenest — it came up in several threads and seems more straightforward than most.

Been testing apps on and off for a couple of years now. The ones worth your time tend to share a few traits: active moderation, a free tier that at least lets you browse properly, and a community that doesn't feel entirely fake or bought.

Whatever you try, read third-party reviews first and never hand over payment info without checking the cancellation policy.

Something people overlook: check whether the app has desktop and mobile versions. Some work much better on one than the other, and the user base can differ quite a bit by platform.

  • Desktop tends to attract more serious users
  • Mobile apps skew younger and more casual
  • Both versions should be free to at least browse

One option worth looking at is Luvdate — it came up in several threads and seems more straightforward than most.

The bot situation is out of control on a lot of these. I've had entire conversations that turned out to be automated.
